Sew Mama Sew's Giveaway This Week!

Giveaway now closed - thank you to all who entered! And if you are interested, check out my etsy store! THANK YOU!!! :)Welcome to this week's Sew Mama Sew giveaway! I make a HUGE selection (16 colors to be exact) of handmade, singed edge silk satin flowers that I sell in my etsy store.I'll be giving away three flowers (on hair clips, so you can add them to your own headband, or tuck them above a ponytail, on your own bobby pins, etc. - it's all about getting a good deal!!!) ... and since I think it's not fair to only have one person win, I'll give away to TWO people! Here's the link to the store to check out the color options even better! All I ask is that you comment with which three you would want personally (it'll make it easier to get your package ready for you when you win!). The giveaway is open until Friday night at midnight (MST). And I'm sorry, but I can only ship these within the USA.And if you're interested in buying your own ... I sell the hair clips for $4 regularly, but with the coupon code SewMama20, you can get 20% off! So that's only $3.20 each ... great deal!!! Also check out the other bulk ordering options for an even greater discount! :) I also host giveaways on my facebook page, go here to like it! :)

To join in on the other giveaways ... go to Sew Mama Sew to see the other goodies up for grabs this week! And I have three tutorials almost finished & ready to add, but they will show up below this posting since it's supposed to stay up for a week! Good luck everyone! :)

What to do with 150 flowers???

So my friend was going to do a craft fair, and she was being gracious enough to let me mail her something to sell at it. So, I came up with my own version of the silk satin flowers with singed edges ... and I made about 150 flowers ... I worked on it like crazy for a week and a half, using up supplies I already had on-hand. A cute little pearl in each center, nothing over the top or dramatic, just a nice accent to any outfit (although at 25 minutes to make each one ... they are a VERY time consuming little hair accent) ... and then something came up and that friend can't do the booth anymore ... so what do I do with all these FLOWERS??? Well, I listed a few on etsy ... and am working on taking better pictures of those ones and the rest to list as well! LOL.So ... anyone interested, the flowers can be found listed here.

Mindless Crafting ...

My husband has been working a LOT of overtime lately (which would be awesome ... except he's salary ... and at this moment I would like to repeat our family mantra - "we're so lucky he has a job in this economy"). So there are weeks like this week, where he has put in 50 hours by last night ... and I need something to take my mind off of everything ... so I look to my new favorite "mindless craft". These amazingly cute & simple burned edges flowers (I made some for the 4th of july here).

I love the fact that I can get 5 for $1 (four smaller ones & a large one for myself), and that with very little effort I get a beautiful result! Here are some I've made lately. I actually made and gave a total of ten of these flowers to a friend in Vegas and am in the process of now making hot pink, white, blue, red and gold. And the best part is it's 20 minutes from start to finish ... and look at how darling they look on my baby girl! LOVE IT! :)

Hopefully I'll have something exciting to share (and completed!) by Monday ... wish my luck!

Improved Hair Clip Holder

I got this HUGE frame for $2.50 at the auction last summer. I popped the ugly before picture out and painted it this teal. Since it's so large, every attempt I made at putting ribbon on it to hold hair clips led to the ribbon bending funny, and I didn't know what I was going to do with it instead. THEN (!!!) I saw a picture of someone's hairbow holder with chicken wire (genius!) and I told Ryan that's what I needed him to do for me! :)My husband is awesome ... 'nuff said. Now to make enough bows to fill it up more properly ...

4th of July Headbands

We had an awesome fourth of July! I wanted to make some flowers for the girls & my hair ... and also for our friends' girls that we met up there! So I stayed up until 1 am burning the edges of the flowers ... which was especially painful waking up at 6 am (with 3 feedings in between) for the parade. But! It was so worth it to see all the girls with their flowers on their heads! I got the tutorial from here. The flowers have six layers, I did layers 3-6 for my headband, 4-6 for Savannah and only 5 & 6 for Lizzie's head ... it made them the perfect size for each girl and they are so inexpensive to make, love them! In total I made 14 different flowers (for my girls and my friends two girls & her as well) ... and it only cost me $4.50 for the fabric ... with LOTS left over! YEAH! :)

More is better

So, I've been seeing these adorable mini pom pom flower hair things all over etsy. I love them! They are the perfect size for me ... or for my baby! But ... $6.50, each??? That's way too steep for me ... so I found some on-line here at afloral.com and found a gal to split shipping with me! I slapped them on some hair clips and then I ordered some baby elastic off of etsy from this seller (she was fast, friendly & a great deal!) ... and wah-lah! Beautiful, inexpensive and I was able to get a total of 21 flowers for less than $20! :) That's my kind of deal. :) One important side note though if you make these yourself, a lot of times when I trimmed the stems off, the bottom layers would fall off ... easily fixable with a little hot glue & sticking them back on! :)

A hair concoction

Things are starting to find a happy medium here! And with that, of course it means more crafting time! :)
So I saw this tutorial/idea and knew I had to make one for Savannah! She's almost six and has decided that she needs me to make her a dress or special hair things for every day of the week ... which has been difficult ... and many Sundays' she wakes up saying ... "but you promised me Mom!" ... and me saying, "um ... no I didn't." and much drama and crying ensues ... lol.
Free is a pretty good way to be and it matched her Easter dress perfectly! :)

More Baby Headbands (#3 of 45)

So I was looking thru etsy for some hair bow inspiration and saw that a lot of gals were using the foldable elastic for hairbands ... sweet! I had some gray, pink & black already in my stash and made another set of 6 (3 in newborn size, 3 in 6-12 month size) ... another free project/de-stashing/quick & easy/so glad to have more options & my third project done! :)
And since these projects have been so, so easy I've been able to put more time into a much more time consuming project that I hope to have done sometime today! :)

Baby Headbands (#2 of 45)

So I know this is a super simple project, and not that exciting ... but to keep track of my goal, I've gotta add it! :) I do have a LOT of these little projects laying around! And these I was able to finish up last night while dinner was cooking, perfect! :) **Which TOTALLY explains the bad lighting BTW.**
I picked up the tights for $3.50 for 3 pairs and was able to make 6 headbands (3 newborn, 3 for 6-12 months) from the box, using each leg as a headband. I've had these laying around for the last few weeks in the front room, so it's nice to have them done & up on my girl's (love the plural!!!) headband frame.
I used this tutorial by the way. :)
